Our Group
counts about 15 members. We all play the same type of instrument: the (French) hunting
horn, tuned in D major (also known as “Trompe” or “Trompe d’Orléans”).
The KAJK is one of the oldest hunting horn societies in Belgium, it was founded
in Antwerp in 1901 We have a quite eventful history, as you might guess. After
rambling around a lot, we found a clubhouse on the Fortress (Fort II) in Wommelgem,
near Antwerp.
We play the classic and modern hunting horn repertoire. According to the centuries-old
(French) tradition of the coursing or drive (battue) on foot or on horse (Vénerie).
We practice at our clubhouse every week to perfect our technique and music.
Nice to know: All our public appearances are called “services” or “sorties”.
We perform approximately 25 “sorties” per year, in Belgium and abroad. Through
the years, we collected a nice curriculum and record of achievements. We are
respected guests on these occasions (That’s what we like to believe at least,
they ask us to come back, so …).
Our appearances:
• (St.-Hubert) Masses, events about nature, hunting, horses and dogs ...
• Concerts.
• Festivals, contests.
• Welcomes, weddings, celebrations … .
• Historical and cultural events.
Our cd: ODE.

In 1999 we made our first cd: “ODE”.
This is what we wrote in the booklet, which is still true today:
"... With this recording, the Koninklijke Antwerpse JachthoornKring
wants to present you an age-old instrument and a very special music tradition.
Besides it is a proof of what can be reached, even by a group of amateurs, with
love for an instrument and a lot of dedication. But even more, this cd is the
expression of our gratitude and an homage to all the people who supported us the
past years. So ... ODE."
And further on:
“When choosing the pieces for this cd, we tried to give a representative overview
of the possibilities of this instrument and of the current hunting horn repertoire.
Both traditional and modern works get a place. On the other hand, some pieces
were chosen for their special meaning for our group.”
